Fretting wear

Fretting wear happens when there is small oscillatory relative motion between two surfaces in contact. This is a common wear issue in the turbine industry in the contact areas between blades and rotors. The motions can cause micro welding and associated pitting and oxidation. Plasma is utilized to spray dense lubricous coatings that reduce the clearance and isolate the blades and rotors. Most often a dri-film lube is added to top surface of coating to aid installation.
