Engine
Cast components inherently exhibit residual porosity which compromises their material properties. By hot isostatically pressing a cast component, the part can be densified and the porosity is effectively removed. Hot isostatic pressing allows components manufactured from lightweight cast aluminium to be made with reduced wall thickness, thereby allowing manufacturers to achieve more power and capacity without increasing the size or weight of the component.
Wheel rims
In addition to densification, the effective removal of porosity and reduced wall thickness, the HIP process benefits castings aesthetically by removing porosity so a superior finish can be achieved by other post-HIP treatments and processes. This facilitates the production of weight saving wheel rims without compromising the design and finish.
